Hi, my name’s Gemma and I’m the Customer Success Lead at Badge Nation!

What does your role involve?

My role involves a little bit of everything! One day I may be helping a new issuer to figure out where they want to start on their badging journey, another day I may be discussing integrations with platforms with an issuer we have been working with for years!
I love the variety my role offers and never fail to get excited when hearing about all the fantastic work our issuers are doing within their communities!

What previous experience do you bring to Badge Nation?

Previous to my work on Badge Nation I have spent my years working with young people, predominantly around supporting young people to have their voices heard on the things that matter to them.
My work with young people has really allowed me to see the areas in the education system where digital badges could have been successful, as well as seeing first hand all the amazing skills that young people have that aren’t readily recognised and celebrated.

Why do you love Digital Badges?

I love badges because as someone who didn’t take a traditional route through higher education or in to employment, I can see so many parts of my life where digital badges could have really boosted my confidence and supported me to achieve great things.
My hope is that in the next 5, 10, 15 or 100 years that badges are used in all areas of life from childhood all the way through to adulthood- and that people get as madly excited when receiving a badge as I do!

If you could create yourself a badge for the past, present or future, what would it be and why would it be useful?

If I could give past me a digital badge, it would be a ‘working through lockdown’ badge. I think the skills gained from juggling days full of Teams meetings, PE with Joe Wicks and baking copious amounts of banana bread are something that should be recognised!

What is your favourite badge to date?

My favourite collection of badges to date hands down has to be the WOMEN’STEC badges. They have badges for women completing learning around power tools, house plants and carpentry.
