Rachel Carter Strategic Lead for Learning, Skills and Enterprise

I’m Rachel Carter, I’m the Strategic Lead for Learning, Skills and Enterprise within Future Creators, and a founding member of Badge Nation.

I have worked both in the public and private sector, with a long career in the BBC and its commercial arm and most recently as a senior officer in local government, with a skills and employment portfolio. I am now the strategic lead on this enterprise on behalf of Future Creators, building regional and national partnerships to spread the word about digital badges and building pathways to employment for all, following on from all the exciting work we undertook as part of the Cities of Learning pilot.

I love digital badges because there are so many experiences and skills that are not captured by educational qualifications and need to be showcased as they tell a large part of the story. All the skills that employers talk about that are not developed in an ever-decreasing school curriculum- what I like to call character skills. Badges can paint a much bigger picture of enrichment and experience.

Talk to me if you are interested in developing badging in your region, your sector or your community and also if you would like to be a badge champion – promoting and supporting badging to other organisations. Join us on the journey!
